Quick Report: Daytona 2009 Qualifying

The team had a great day, taking top spot in both practice sessions, with two different cars. Randy Pobst turned a 2:09.1 in the first session, his first time in the #74 Honda Civic Si he shares with Christian Miller. In the second practice, Matt Pritiko put in a 2:09.4 in the #76 Civic he and Travis Walker will drive in tomorrow’s race.

In qualifying, the guys gave it their all, drafting and freight-training as best they could, finishing up in a remarkable 4th, 5th and 6th positions. Even more interesting, the cars qualified in numerical order: 74, 75 and 76!

Andrew Acquilante’s Subaru Legacy is on pole, but we’re thrilled with such a strong showing from all three of our Hondas…

Thomson: 2009 Will Be Great!

Things are changing fast in the world of racing. This has never been a sport for those that can’t keep up, but even those fast on their feet have been surprised by how much has transpired so quickly!

Car counts are down. Sponsors, if they’ve still got a budget for motorsports, are demanding better, more concrete numbers. People and companies are worried about the economy and are holding back on making solid commitments. And yet, if I look at the American condition in January, 2009, I think of a line famously sung by rock icons Rush: “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.” Let’s call a spade a spade: there is a lot of uncertainty in the racing world right now!
